ABOUT WHITEWATER RAFTING BOATS: Our boats are professional, whitewater self-bailing rafts (image on top right). We offer popular paddle-boats where everyone paddles under the direction of our guides (image to your left). Or you can opt for the oar-boat where you sit and ride while the guide rows the boat with 10 ft-oars (image at bottom right). On the South Fork American, paddlers should be a minimum of 8 yrs old and on the Middle Fork American, paddlers should be a minimum of 14 yrs old.

When conditions on a river change such as flows or obstacles, ratings of the river may change, too. Always ask the outfitter what their ideal flow is on the river based on the river classification system. Otherwise, during higher water, rivers may boast up the ratings by a notch. With family rafting trips, it becomes very important to know what age group and experience levels are in your reservation. The outfitter may opt to place younger children in oarboats with a parent or adult accompanying them based on river conditions for that day.
