A wonderful slide through a carved out portion of the river ends through a dark tunnel thus earning its name, "Tunnel Chute Rapid."

Early argonauts diverted the river to accommodate their gold mining operations. Imagine diverting the entire river into this 15 foot wide slot! Incredible hydraulics create a churning Class 4+ rapid.

Increase your skills by rafting this stretch of whitewater before attempting any solid Class 4 runs. American River rafting on the Middle Fork is in close proximity to the Bay Area and the Tahoe region.

We suggest strong, athletic paddlers on this Class III-IV+ river!
