Here's the rest of Liz's story on her rafting experience on the American River rafting trips:
I have been rafting with my parents since 1991 on the American river rafting trips. I started on the Lower Middle Fork American doing a float in the canyon. I don't remember much since I was only 2 years old! But from what my parents talked about, they brought along a lot of fun toys like waterpistols and buckets and shovels. When we would stop on shore, us little kids would roll around and dig into the sand. Anyway, that was my maiden voyage.
As I got older, my parents took me on the South Fork American River. At first, I was too small to paddle so I rode in an oarboat where the guide does all the rowing. My Mom and Dad sat on each side of me with their hand steadying my back. We rode on the tube (thwart) inside the boat, & I still remember laughing & screaming when the waves hit my face. My parents told me that I always wanted to ride in the front with my face hanging over the edge, just waiting for the rapids!
Then I went on a Middle Fork Salmon trip when I was around 6 years old. All I remember is the moose in the river next to our boat and the wild storm that forced us to hide behind huge boulders. It was fun because we never washed our hair or even brushed it. We looked like a pack of wild creatures!
As a teen, I don't have as much time to spend on the longer river rafting trips, but I still enjoy joining my parents and their friends and my friends to go rafting at least once a year. I drag my friends from school to join me and they always have tons of fun and join me in my rafting passion.
Last year, I organized a summer camping and rafting trip on the American River. I brought 10 of my best friends and we hung out checking the dudes on the river! At camp, we whipped out our iPods & had a dance party around the campfire.
This year, I have so many people who want to join me & my friends, that I will have to find out if a parent is willing to carpool us and leave us there! (Of course, my parentals will be lurking at the campground waiting for us to arrive at the take-out point.) Liz, 16 years old

Stay active & keep your health intact. Otherwise, anything that you do in the great outdoors is not going to be fun for those couch potato people.
My friends & I go rafting, we surf, we snowboard (I just got a new snowboard from Burton & I can't wait to try it out in the Sierra's!), we ride our bikes, we try to walk all over the neighborhood & we try to stay as active as we can.
For a first time out, try to do a One Day rafting trip on the South Fork American. Multiple day trips start out also on the South Fork; then look at other rivers such as the Middle Fork American, Tuolumne, Rogue River, Salmon River, Middle Fork Salmon and the granddaddy of them all, the Colorado through the Grand Canyon!
When you go rafting or anything else, keep an adventurous spirit. It will go a long way in helping you to conquer all your teen angst!
Join groups of teens ages 12 - 17 yrs old on the South Fork American River. Above normal flows will provide a challenging Class 3+ run for the athletic teen. iPod Challenge, Rafting Dweeb and Dance Party will be included on "Just for Teens" rafting trip. Parents are welcome at the barbecue or they can join in the paddling fun on the river! Prizes include iTunes gift cards. Cost is $129 per person; includes lunch, BBQ & party.
